Yaks Aerobatic Team

Back for a second year at the Windermere Airshow, the spectacular Yakovlevs Aerobatic Display Team are led by chief pilot and owner of the team, Jez Hopkinson, in the Yak 52.

The Yakovlevs Aerobatic team, first formed in 2000, flies Russian aircraft made by the Yakovlevs design bureau in Moscow. These reliable and robust aircraft were designed for training and world class aerobatic competitions. The Yakovlevs team flies in ‘two ship’ & ‘four ship’ formations (ie 2 & 4 planes) depending on the display requirement. This year the Windermere display with be with the ’four ship’ team.

Leading the Yakovlevs formation is the world's most powerful Yak 52, known as the Super 52. This unique two seater aeroplane was specifically developed for the team.

Following in close formation will be three single seat Yak 50s. These world championship aerobatic aircraft are much loved for their sparkling performance, manoeuvrability and grace.
